A cross-section of stakeholders within the ruling All Progressives Congress, on Wednesday called on the President-elect, Bola Tinubu and the leadership of the party to douse agitations of indigenes of South East zone of the country with the Senate Presidency slot.

They also said considering the slot for the zone will address the current perceived religious imbalance of the ruling APC, urging all senators from the Northwest jostling for the position to drop their ambition and support someone from the South East.

The stakeholders, under the aegis of Concerned Nigerians for Sustainable Democracy, at a world press conference in Abuja, explained that their position was premised upon proffering solutions to various agitations and all forms of security threats across six geo-political zones of the country.

Addressing journalists, the coordinator of CNSD, Dr. Amos Gizo, stated that Tinubu, APC leaders, senators and other stakeholders should be mindful that Nigeria is a cosmopolitan and a multi-religious state that needs special handling in the spirit of keeping the Nigerian state one.

Dr Gizo said, “With the new government to be ushered in by May 29th 2023, the Nigerian Citizens are expecting much from the Tinubu-led government. The challenges on ground are more than those President Buhari met in 2015.

“The most serious arm of government after the executive arm is the legislative arm. This conference is to address the nation on where leadership of this very important arm, especially the Senate President will be zoned to for stability, sustainable democracy and for total integration.

“In the first place, the Moslem-Moslem ticket that almost cost the APC the success at the polls has come and gone, and Nigeria now has the number 1 and 2 both as Muslims. If the nation is to stand, those agitating for the Senate President from the North West should step down for the sake of democracy and inclusiveness.”

They also called on all well-meaning Nigerians to rise against those plotting an interim government, saying the take-over of Tinubu as President would minimize the myriad of problems facing the country.
