Fuel price hike: EFCC officials raid Kaduna filling stations

There was drama on Thursday afternoon when officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed filling stations in Kaduna metropolis over petroleum price hike.

Most of the filling stations visited by the staff of the anti-crime commission were those selling above the official price of N185 per litre and those selling in jerrycans.

City & Crime gathered that EFCC officials arrived at MRS Filling Station along Akilu road within Kaduna metropolis around 1:30pm accompanied by armed mobile policemen.

They went around to ensure that the filing station was not selling above the official price while car owners were in the queue to buy.

Our correspondent observed that the fuel attendants stopped selling during the check until the operatives left after being convinced that the station was not selling above the official rate.

“They are not hoarding fuel here because they still sell a litre at N185 including to people that brought jerrycans. But the EFCC officials drove away people with jerrycans from the premises,” a motorist said. 

Similarly at Gura Nigeria Limited filling station along Nnamdi Azikiwe Bypass, the anti-corruption officials stormed the station asking the staff to reverse to the official rate of N185 per litre against N280 they were selling.

Again, the officials visited filling stations in Mando where they stopped selling at N292 per litre.

Usmania Petroleum Station, also along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Bypass, selling at N290 was asked to reverse to the official price.

The officials also visited Kamlik Nigeria Limited selling at N299 per litre.

A staff of the anti-graft commission, who pleaded anonymity, said they visited the filling stations to enforce the official rate.

He said it was sad as the filling stations selling above the official price were subjecting Nigerians to suffering.
