Gunmen Attack bus in Ekiti, injure 3, kidnap others

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Monday night attacked a commercial bus on the Iju/Itaogbolu/Ikere-Ekiti road and kidnapped the passengers.

Our correspondent gathered that the driver was coming from Ado-Ekiti and heading for Akure, Ondo State capital.

A source said the gunmen, about five and armed with guns and other weapons, waylaid the vehicle and shot at it causing the driver to run into a ditch.

The source said some passengers, mostly government workers, who were injured in the attack, were rushed to a private hospital in Ikere-Ekiti.

When contacted, the spokesman of Ekiti State Police Command, DSP Sunday Abutu, said he had yet to be briefed on the incident.

But, the Commandant, Ekiti Amotekun Corps, retired Brig.-Gen. Joe Komalafe, said his men and other sister security agencies in the state had started combing the bush in the area to rescue the victim.
