Lawmaker representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Umar Buba, has said Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) will resume oil exploration at the Kolmani Oil well located at the boundary between Bauchi and Gombe States this month.

Buba said this while responding to questions from journalists in Bauchi.

He said the issue of Kolmani oil exploration had become a source of concern to stakeholders from Bauchi and Gombe States.

Buba, who is also the Chairman, Senate Committee on Security and Intelligence, said, “When we were inaugurated at the Senate, the Kolmani oil issue was the first thing I intended to bring motion about but when I contacted critical stakeholders, especially Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) through the Group Managing Director Mele Kyari, the National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu and some lawmakers from the affected states and held a meeting Kyari about the Oil exploration at the Kolmani oil wells.”

“We demanded to know why since the ground breaking ceremony of the oil wells by former President Muhammadu Buhari activities at the site were abandoned. The GMD has given us details and convincing explanations. NNPC has already awarded contract with an Indian firm and right now in the country making preparations.

“Kyari has assured us that by the grace of God within this month of February, the activities at the Kolmani oil well will resume fully because our meeting was held last October. We are now keeping vigil and watching the resumption. If the month of February passes without them returning to the site, Insha Allah we will bring up the issue at the Senate and also make it public.”
