The Association of Professional Women in Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) has organised a workshop to encourage young girls to get involved in the study of Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The president of APWEN, Dr Mrs Adebisi Osim, said the programme is not just a topic of discussion but a clarion call to action, especially for girls.
“The purpose of this STEM For All is just to encourage young girls in secondary schools to start studying the subjects of science and technology early enough. We are trying to encourage them to start from the foundation. Without STEM nobody can be an engineer,” she said.
Dr Osim said when young girls study STEM in secondary schools, they will definitely be interested in studying engineering at higher institutions.

“Engineering is the cornerstone of innovation and development. It drives the solutions to some of our most pressing global challenges, from climate change to infrastructure development and beyond. Yet, for engineering to truly serve society and address these challenges effectively, it must reflect the diverse perspectives and talents of the communities it aims to benefit,” she added.
Also speaking at the programme, chairperson of APWEN, Awka chapter, Engr Hellen Ifeanyichukwu, urged the girls to always look for role models if they want to study engineering.
