COEASU President Comrade Emmanuel Asagha Nkoro who issued the warning in a press statement said the union had on several occasions educated the government that the scheme cannot work in the colleges of education and is rendered invalid by the law.
Nkoro, who said he was reacting to a recent comment by the Accountant General of the Federation on the status of the colleges of education, said government’s position is “another cynical and flagrant violation of the laws establishing this seemingly defenceless system.”
He said , “The ill-motivated forceful situation…infringe on our rights and make nonsense of the extant laws (NCCE Decree (now Act) N0. 13 of 17th January of 1989: Colleges Amendment Act of January, 1993) which established the Colleges of Education and the regulatory agency (NCCE).”
In addition, he noted that IPPIS would fan the embers of anarchy and war in a system like the Colleges of Education and the Polytechnics in which they imagine they have no stake…while also negating the ideals in the expected gains in the principles which were fashioned to ensure the successful operations of peculiar systems like the Nigerian tertiary institutions.
He warned that if the union’s “several warnings are not heeded, based on the encapsulated negative potentials of this vindictive policy, given the peculiar operational structure of the COEs, and the obvious threats posed to our smooth operations and corporate existence, we shall invoke an all-inclusive industrial dispute scheme to seek redress.”
