The Daily Trust Foundation, a non-profit arm of the Media Trust Group, has put together a three-day workshop on investigative reporting for select female journalists from the North Central Geopolitical Zone which began yesterday, Monday, February 5, 2024, and will end on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.

The workshop, funded by the MacArthur Foundation, brought together female journalists from Kogi, Kaduna, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Niger, Kwara and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Speaking on behalf of the Chairman of the Daily Trust Foundation, Malam Bilya Bala, the foundation’s Programme Director, Theophilus Abbah, said the workshop was part of the foundation’s strategies to encourage female journalists to embrace accountability journalism.

He said, “The workshop was put together by Daily Trust Foundation in our deliberate attempt to demystify investigative reporting, especially among female journalists. Anyone can become a good investigative reporter if he or she is exposed to the methods of carrying out diverse kinds of investigation. This is evident in the world, where there are as many female investigative journalists as there are male investigative reporters. In Nigeria, we cannot leave the task of holding the government accountable to a particular gender; all hands must be on deck to carry out that constitutional assignment. The more investigative reporting we do in Nigeria the better for the society.”

The facilitators of the workshop include Lami Sadiq, the Group Investigations Editor of Daily Trust and award-winning investigative journalist; Dr Suleiman Suleiman, an intellectual who has conducted researches into investigative reporting in Nigeria and celebrated columnist with Daily Trust; and Idris Akinbajo, a multiple award-winning investigative journalist and Managing Editor of Premium Times in Nigeria.
