Security experts have urged parents to monitor the social media engagements of their wards to help benefit from the advantages and protect them from the ills and other negative effects of the platforms.
They gave the advice yesterday in Abuja at a post-Ramadan public lecture organised by the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Abuja chapter, with the theme, “Social Media and our Children: The Islamic perspective”.

Delivering the keynote, the Imam/Director, Islamic Affairs, Nigeria Air Force (NAF), Abuja, Air Commodore Lukman Lawal, said Facebook, telegram, Instagram, tiktok, Twitter and WhatsApp among other social media platforms should be taken like other human achievements whose misuse must be avoided and guided against.
Also speaking, the National Chairman, United Muslim for Good Initiative, Captain Suleiman Ayuba Chinoko, said that it is for the parents to protect their children from the negative effects of social media and ensure that they benefitted only from the positive sides.
On his part, the National President of the MMPN, Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said the widespread of evils effects of social media was mostly due to the indulgence of many parents in the usage of phones and other mobile devices.
