The triplets – two males and a female – are yet to celebrate their naming ceremony because their father has sent only a ram and a she-goat instead of two rams and a she-goat. They are 70 days old.
Binta’s problem started weeks after she got pregnant. When her husband, Musa Suleiman, discovered that his wife was pregnant, he questioned the paternity of the baby, saying it was too early for her to get pregnant. As a result of this, the couple went for scanning to determine the number of days of the pregnancy. Suleiman was, however, surprised when the doctor confirmed that Binta took in two weeks after marriage.
“Our problem started the very day he realised that I was pregnant. We had to go for test, and the result showed that I got pregnant two weeks after I entered his house as his wife,” Binta told Hisbah officials.
Binta’s relationship with her husband got more complicated the very day she collected the result of her scan, which showed that she carried triplets. She said her husband was not happy at the result. He, however, did not divorce her until she gave birth.
“When I showed him the result of the scanning he asked if I was mad.
Suleiman, a civil servant, told officials of the Hisbah Board that he would accept the children but would not take their mother back to his house because he had been having problems with her.
“He told us that he would not divorce her, but he was not ready to take her back because they were not living in peace. He was angry because she took him to court and a police station, where he was detained,” a Hisbah official said.
Suleiman, whose second wife also gave birth to twins recently, making him a father of five children within one year, however, agreed to give the mother of the triplets the sum of N11, 500 monthly.
He told Hisbah that he would provide the remaining ram for the naming ceremony of the children within four months, and promised to pay the bills through the Hisbah Board.
“He is ready to take all the responsibilities of his children. And he is ready to take all of them,’’ the Hisbah official added.
Before she gave birth to the triplet, Binta had dragged her husband to court, an action that made him to rent a separate apartment for her.
