The Yobe State government has inaugurated a committee with 24 members that will halt the exporting of grains outside the country and address the problem of hoarding of grains within the state.

Inaugurating the committee at the Government House in Damaturu, the state capital, the state deputy governor Idi Barde Gubana said the government in a swift response to the yearnings and aspirations of its people, cannot allow such negative development to continue unchecked.

‘‘Some unscrupulous elements are seriously trying to undermine our serenity by causing additional hardship to the people through unnecessary bulk purchase and hoarding of staple food,’’ he said.

Buni said the committee will coordinate with security agencies for the sale of procured grains to the public at subsidised prices and to advise  the government on any other measures that are necessary to address the problem of food insecurity in the state.

The Yobe State deputy governor Hon Idi Barde Gubana will serve as chairman of the committee while the Secretary to the State Government Baba Malam Wali will work as the secretary of the committee.
