Farmers in Kano have expressed delight over bumper harvest from a new maize variety donated to them by a seedling company for demonstration at the commencement of this year’s rainy season.

Auwal Maidabino, a retired civil servant now farmer said that with the introduction of the hybrid SC-649, maize farming is now guaranteed with bumper harvest and that it would elevate farmers from the lower class to the peak as a result of the profits they would gain.

Another farmer, Baiti Idris said with seeds of this kind, there would be a rapid increase in food production in line with the present administration’s efforts towards self-reliance and food security.

The Managing Director, Seed Co, Mr. Kolade Dada represented by the Regional Sales Manager, Junaid Muhktar said Kano SC-649 has great potential and takes 100-110 days to mature with the potential to yield 8-10 tons per hectare.
