Titled: “Kings College: The Second Century”, the book was launched at the college’s Floreat Endowment Fund hosted by KCOBA national executives including members of its Board of Trustees, as well as some ex-officio members in Lagos.
In his speech, the Guest Speaker at the occasion, Prof. emeritus, Oladipo Akinkugbe described the centenary book as “a copious display of brain and brawn.”
“This centenary book is an overwhelming evidence of the proper moulding of the total persons the college had succeeded in producing over the years. Kings College had produced eminent Nigerians who have made their mark in their different fields of endeavour.
“Today, nearly 16,000 students that have passed through the portals of KC have diffused into society and permeated its ethos. Its distinguished alumni include scholars, educationists, lawyers, captains of industries, military officers, clergies, politicians,
among others. And all of these were adequately referenced in the book,” Prof. Akinkugbe said.
According to the Guest Lecturer, the history of Kings College is one that could hardly be divorced from the Nigerian history, thus the need for Nigeria to place emphasis on human capital development as acknowledged by the many outstanding students who have passed through the college, many of whom were captured in the book.
In his remark, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Chief Philip Asiodu said even though the current generation of alumni owe it a duty to preserve the school, the publication of the centenary book will on the other hand, assist future generations to sustaining the school legacies.
The Editor of the book, Prof. Taiwo Gbadamosi thanked those who had contributed towards the successful centenary publication saying, “We believe in the history of Kings College and it will remain  at thewellspring  of democratic heroes.”
