This was the crux at a stakeholders roundtable meeting held in Abuja last week.
Director of Research NAILS  , Prof. Olarenwaju Fagbogun, in a  presentation Titled ‘Identifying Gaps in Data Privacy and Security in the Adoption of Clouds in Nigeria said that the need of the research was to provide relevant bodies in the country recommendations of ways of moving forward in Nigeria in relations to cloud computing.
Cloud computing, according to him is one of the most important current trend in the field of information and communication technology (ICT)
According to the Professor “We are looking at how Nigeria can move forward and enjoy opportunities that go with cloud computing bearing in mind that there are very serious concerns of privacy, security confidentiality, and a whole lot more in this area.”
He opined that the presentation was an outcome of and extensive research he had done in the area of cloud computing with the support of Microsoft.
He also emphasized that “The research which focused on the possible gaps and case studies that focus on SME’s and the Education sector to see how cloud computing can impact these sectors to be more ICT based”
The professor said the scope is broader in the legal profession.
According to him “One of the issues challenging the legal practices include privacy and security because you are storing data in a remote server, the persons using the data is not actually the manager of the storage facility.”
Ijeoma Abaziw the head of corporate affairs Microsoft Nigeria, Said “Microsoft is working with learning manager to work with IT Savy individuals within the universities and we’ve been running a lot of programs with key universities to help get ambassador who could further improve the awareness of cloud”.
