The Sokoto State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for constituting a Taskforce Committee on Sales and Distribution of Petroleum products in the state.
It however, observed with dismay that the Council was not represented in the committee in spite the importance of the media in the society.
It therefore called on government to consider NUJ as vital when membership of committees were bring drawn.
In a communiqués issued after its Congress held Sunday, it said the taskforce committee would help in checking the excesses of petroleum dealers, who were in the habit of hoarding the product for selfish gains.
The communique which was signed by the Secretary of the Council, Abdallah Elkurebe also appealed to the Committee to be diligent and avoid being complacent in the discharge of its duties for the benefit of the people of the state.
It also commended the Chairman of Isa Local Government, Col. Garba Moyi (Rtd) for facilitating the surrendering of 27 cattle rustlers in the local government area.
While calling on the local government council to encourage the cattle rustlers to engage in meaningful trades, the Union appealed to other local government chairmen to emulate the chairman of Isa local government. It also called on all security agencies in the state to be more proactive in the discharge of their duties.
On the renovation of the Press Centre, which has dragged for more than two years now, the Union called on the state government to put more pressure on the contractor handling the renovation to hasten up and complete it, soon.
