Police detectives from the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, have arrested two members of a notorious cross-border gunrunning syndicate, Shokoti Roborth and Ojelade Yusuf, in the Atan area of Ogun State.
The spokeswoman of the zone, SP Umma Ayuba, explained that their arrest followed an intelligence report received by the AIG of the command, Olatoye Durosinmi, about the criminal activities of the gang.
Umma said based on the strength of the report, the AIG detailed a team of detectives to carry out a discrete investigation to ascertain the validity of the information.
She said investigation revealed that Roborth was the Nigerian head of the cross- boarder gunrunning gang.

She further said, “He was arrested somewhere in Atan, Ogun State. Upon a search, two newly manufactured locally made pistols were recovered in his handbag. He thereafter led the detectives to his abode in Atan Township where two additional pistols were recovered.
“During interrogation, he confessed to being a member of a cult group known as Eiye confraternity who had been in the business of smuggling and selling small arms into the country from Benin Republic.
“Following the arrest of Roborth and his confession, Yusuf was arrested in possession of a pump action gun which he claimed to have bought from his absconding friend. He also confessed to being a member of the Eiye confraternity. Investigation is ongoing and suspects will be prosecuted accordingly.”
