A relationship, especially marriage, is a vow between two people who have pledged their lives to each other. It is meant to be a forever lifetime adventure, such a relationship should not be betrayed. But, the sad truth is that not everyone takes their vows seriously. What would you do if you caught your better half in the act of cheating? LifeXtra takes a look at varying views about the issue.
People are different. Some people have a forgiving spirit while others don’t. And even if your partner forgives you for cheating. Will they ever trust you again? They will always think you are cheating even if you turn a new leaf. Is cheating worth risking your marriage over? Let us see what Nigerians think about this matter. LifeXtra takes a look.
Donald Nwankwo, a thirty-year-old civil servant who lives in Anambra told LifeXtra that he would never forgive his wife if he caught her in the act of cheating. He said, “I don’t think I will ever forgive my wife if I catch her cheating on me. It is a different thing for me to know she is cheating and another thing for me to catch her in the act. That image will never leave my memory. I will try to control my emotions and walk out of the room because if I stay I don’t know what will happen. But I will never forgive her.”
Twenty-nine-year-old Ogechi Ejiofor, who is also an entrepreneur told LifeXtra that she will get even with her husband if he ever does that to her. “The world has changed so much. We are no longer in the era where men think they can cheat on their wives and go free. If I catch him cheating on me, I will simply walk out. The silent treatment is worse than venting my anger and disappointment. Trust me; he will not have peace of mind. Once he does that, I just know he will keep doing it no matter the begging. So, I will simply get even with him. What is good for the goose is also good for the gander.” she said.
Seun Adams is a thirty-seven-year-old married woman who is also a hairstylist. She said, “Men will always cheat even though it doesn’t mean it is right. If I catch my husband cheating in my home, then the lady must have known that he is married. I will beat the living hell out of her. It is disrespectful for her to bring herself to my matrimonial home to engage in sexual relations with my husband. As for my husband, he will have to look for where to live for a while because I bring as much to the table as he does. I will not condone such behaviour from him. He will have to prove himself to me before he comes back to live in the house.”
Lawan Adamu, fifty-one-year-old security personnel told LifeXtra that he would divorce his wife immediately because it is haram. “That is an abomination. If I catch my wife in the act of sleeping with another man, all hell will break loose. May my eyes not see evil. If Allah grants me the grace to leave that scene immediately, she had better not let me meet her in my house when I get back.” he said.
