Kano state Fire Service has confirmed the death of one woman as a newly constructed market stall collapsed on four passers bye in the ancient Kurmi market last Saturday.
The service’s Public Relation Officer, Sa’idu Haruna, who confirmed the incidence said a distress call was received that a market stall at the market had collapsed.
“Our men were mobilised to the site and they recovered four victims from the collapsed building and took them to Murtala Muhammed General Hospital where a woman out of the four was confirmed dead,’’ he said.
An eye witness Malam Jadda Bashir told Kano chronicle that, victims were all women who came to the market to transact business.
According to him the collapsed stall was a newly constructed storey building.
He added that the situation was saved as the incident happened during the weekend adding that the casualties would have been higher.
