Bandits have launched another deadly attack on Gbugbu community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing one person.

The attackers also abducted a popular provision store owner and injured two others during a late-night raid that has thrown residents into panic.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening, shortly after the Isha (night) prayer, when armed men stormed the community and began shooting indiscriminately. Residents fled for safety as gunfire echoed across the town.

A resident, Mohammed Yunus, told Daily Trust on Monday night that the gunmen abducted Ridwan Bello, a well-known provision dealer whose roadside shop is among the busiest in the area.

He claimed that two people died during the attack and expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation.

According to him, soldiers were present in the area but could not engage fully to avoid hitting civilians.

Confirming the incident, a vigilante commander in the area, Gina Gbugbu, said the attackers arrived in large numbers around the time residents were preparing for night prayers.

Security agencies contacted on Monday had yet to respond as of the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Edu Local Government Area, Abdullahi Bello, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Gbugbu community from 4 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily until further notice. The directive followed an emergency security meeting held at the council headquarters on Monday.
