One gunman was killed when the police and vigilantes in Kwara State rescued three victims kid-napped in two villages in Omupo District in Ifelodun LGA.

It was gathered that the victims, two Fulani women and one of their husbands, were abducted over the weekend from their camps near Gaa Sulu village.

However, on Sunday, in a joint operation, hunters and vigilantes of Miyetti Allah, in collabora-tion with the police, rescued the abducted persons while one of the armed abductors was killed during exchange of gunfire and five of them arrested.

Speaking on the incident, the Coordinator of the Joint Security Network, Kwara South District, Elder Olaitan Oyin Zubair, in a statement, said, “Upon receiving the news of the abduction of three people, the hunters and vigilantes swung into action by combing the forests which resulted in an exchange of gunfire between the hunters and the kidnappers.

“The action of the hunters who were promptly joined by residents from various communities in the area to chase the six kidnappers led to the freedom of the abducted persons and arrest of some of the criminals. One of them was shot dead during the exchange of gunfire.”

Also, the spokesman of the Kwara State Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident.
