1 killed as Enugwu-Agidi cancels Town Union election

One person was allegedly killed during the general election of  Enugwu-Agidi Town Union in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

This was made known by the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Michael Okekeuche in a statement by his Publicity Secretary, Vince Onyekwulu in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

He said the 28-year-old Anayo Nworah was beaten to death.

According to him, the community’s general election slated for the festive period was canceled because of the death.

He said he took the decision after consulting with some stakeholders in the community.

According to him, the cancellation of the election was to forestall further breakdown of law and order, violence and breach of peace.

“Essentially, members of the public are urged to remain law-abiding, while His Royal Highness and Enugwu Agidi stakeholders continue to interface with the state government for further directives, “ he said.

When contacted, the spokesman for Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command has no knowledge of any death resulting from any town union crisis.

“My brother, I am just hearing this from you for the first time. We have not been informed,” he said
