Armed thugs on Sunday morning invaded Mokola police station in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in an attempt to burn down the station.

Daily Trust reports that it took the intervention of youths in the area to prevent the hoodlums from razing the station.

One of the youths in the neighbourhood who resisted the attempt to burn the station, Musa Muhammed, told our correspondent that a female Police Inspector was almost killed, adding that he as the youth leader mobilised to repel the hoodlums from setting the station ablaze.

He noted that the crisis started when an innocent boy was killed by a stray bullet.

He said nobody could establish the source of the gunshot, but the youths took the corpse of the boy to the Police Station at Mokola, thinking he was shot by a police officer.

Musa said when the hoodlums got to the station, many of the officers on duty fled, leaving their uniforms behind.

Following the incident, the state joint security outfit called “operation burst” stepped in to repel the attack.

A top official of Operation Burst in the state, who craved anonymity confirmed the incident to Daily Trust but denied the death of the young man.

He, however, said seven of the hoodlums have been apprehended, adding that normalcy has been restored to Mokola and its environs.
