Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Liberty Radio staff member, Azubuko Nwakama.

Abuja Metro reports that Nwakama was attacked and robbed at Panteka Market, Mpape, Abuja in June 2024. He later died from the attack.

The FCT Police Commissioner, Saka Ajao Adewale, disclosed this to journalists at the weekend.

He said detectives were deployed to investigate the incident, which led to the arrests.

The three suspects were identified as Mukhtari Lawal from Kano State, Dan’Asabe Ibrahim from Zamfara State, and Danjuma Ibrahim from Mpape, Abuja, with no fixed address.

The commissioner noted that the suspects were tracked down after a year-long investigation.

Efforts to trace the stolen phone initially failed as it remained switched off for over a year.

The breakthrough came on August 2, 2025, when a phone—a Redmi 13C stolen from the deceased—was powered on and tracked to Lawal, who was then arrested.

Lawal confessed to the crime, admitting that he had taken the phone to Kano, kept it off for a year, and only switched it on in August 2025 to erase data before returning to Abuja.

“During interrogation, Mukhtari confessed to attacking and stabbing the deceased before making away with his valuables,” CP Adewale said.

He added that Lawal named his accomplices as Dan’Asabe Ibrahim and Danjuma Ibrahim, with whom he carried out the crime.

The police commissioner commended the officers for their persistence and warned criminals to desist or face the full wrath of the law.
