At least 10 persons were arrested on Thursday for their alleged involvement in a violent protest that broke out in Ajegunle, also known as AJ City, in Lagos State.
The suspects were said to be among those behind a mass demonstration called to protest alleged distribution of “crazy” electricity bills to residents by officials of the Ikeja Electric Distribution Company despite epileptic power supply.
The protesters demanded, among other things, an end to the distribution of “crazy” bills to consumers and urged the DisCo to commence mass metering as directed by the federal government.
But what appeared to be peaceful when it started assumed a frightening dimension when hoodlums joined the protesters around Boundary Market to loot and damage vehicles.

Sensing that the protest might become bloody, the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, directed the deployment of policemen from Ajegunle, Trinity and Layini police stations.
As soon as the police arrived they dispersed the protest and arrested 10 of the protesters.
