A philanthropist and real estate mogul, Dr Kayode Alex Bankole (KAB), has donated 10 motorised boreholes to primary schools across 10 communities in Oke-Ero local government area of Kwara State.

He said the initiative, partnered by the Bank of Industry, marks a substantial milestone in ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life for the children.

The beneficiary schools are United Anglican Primary School, Ekan Meje, Orota Grammar School, Odo Owa, Iloffa Grammar School, Iloffa, Agbale Community School, Imoji and St. Paul Primary School, Idofin-Igbanna.

Others are ECWA Primary School, Idofin-Ase, Ayedun Community, Obaji Comprehensive School, Imode Primary School and Egosi Community School.

Speaking during the commissioning at Ekan Meje on Monday, KAB who is also a prince of the town described it as a significant achievement and a single step towards broader development.

He urged the benefiting communities to collaborate to protect the projects and ensure their wise utilization.

According to him, “This is not only an investment in infrastructure but a crucial investment in the future of our children, our schools, and our entire community”.

He said one of the most pressing challenges faced by many rural communities in Oke-Ero is access to clean and safe water especially within the school.

“The lack of this fundamental necessity, he noted, jeopardizes the health and well-being of our students and educators, resulting in a continuous struggle for effective learning.

“Water is vital for life. However, it transcends mere consumption; it is an essential component of health, growth, and progress. Clean water enables our children to study in hygienic conditions”, he said.

The former banker turned real estate magnate who described himself as a bricklayer, said the project transcends resolution to a water crisis but symbolises hope and acts as catalysts for progress.

“They exhibit the commitment of the KAB Foundation to the advancement of Oke-Ero and the well-being of its residents.

“By providing reliable access to clean water, these boreholes will serve our schools and, by extension, the surrounding communities, thereby alleviating the daily struggle for water access”.

He promised to continue to maintain them adding that the goal is for them to “outlive us”.

The local government chairman of Oke Ero, Hon James Fidipe, thanked the donor for the gesture which he said will go a long way to ease their learning.

In his address, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq represented his deputy, Mr. Kayode Alabi, said though access to water is a fundamental human right, many communities around the world, including our own, have struggled to access the basic necessity.

AbdulRazaq said the provision of these boreholes will help alleviate the burden of water scarcity, improving the health, hygiene, and overall quality of life of our people in these communities.

While congratulating KAB, the governor said “Our administration will continue to welcome initiatives and partnerships that will increase access to essential services and infrastructural development in the state”.
