Ten people have died in separate auto crashes in Niger and Ogun states.

A trailer crash on the Lambata-Suleja road in Niger State claimed five lives and left two severely injured.

Sources told Daily Trust that the trailer loaded with goods crashed before the Izom bridge, in Gurara LGA, on Tuesday morning.

The latest lone crash involving a heavy-duty vehicle occurred less than a week after a similar incident claimed 22 lives and left 20 injured.

Adamu Umar, a resident of Lambata, told our correspondent that the Tuesday accident happened at a bad portion of the road near the Izom bridge.

Sources said the trailer departed Lagos enroute one of the northern states and crashed while dodging potholes near the bridge.

The Sector Commander of the Niger State Federal Road Safety Corps, Aishatu Sa’adu, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

 

Car race wager claims five lives in Ogun

Relatedly, a N30,000 car race wager resulted in an accident in the Ipara area of Remo, Ogun State, claiming five lives including two residents and three suspected internet fraudsters, aka Yahoo boys.

The incident which occurred on Monday followed a car racing contest with a N30,000 wager for the winner.

Witnesses said during the contest, one of the participants lost control of the wheels and rammed into a nearby shop.

He reportedly killed two bystanders on the spot.

It was further gathered that the driver, alongside two other occupants of the vehicle, got trapped and sustained injuries.

However, they were rescued and taken to separate hospitals where they reportedly died.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident.

Akinbiyi said, “At about 13:40 hrs on 11/08/2025, a lone fatal accident occurred near the Owolowo area, Ipara Remo. The accident involved an unregistered Lexus car whose driver’s name was unknown and two other occupants, both male, in his vehicle.

“The accident occurred when the driver was heading towards Fidiwo, but on getting to the aforementioned point, while at high speed, lost control of his vehicle and rammed into one Akeem Ashiru, male, and one Shina Badejo, by the roadside.

“As a result of the impact, the driver, Akeem Ashiru, and Shina Badejo died at the scene.”

According to him, two other occupants died at the various hospitals where they were receiving treatment.

“Two other occupants were rescued to the Isara State Hospital, while one also died while receiving treatment.

“The other one was referred to OASTH Sagamu, where he also succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday,” Akinbiyi concluded.
