In fulfillment of its promise to clothe the orphans, Jama’atul Izalatil Bid’a Wa’iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) has distributed readymade cloths and fabrics to some selected orphans in Lagos.

About 1000 orphans, both Christians and Muslims, benefited from the gesture aimed at putting smiles on their faces ahead of the Eid- el- Fitri celebration which marks the end of the Ramadan fast.

The materials were handed to the beneficiaries by the JIBWIS Committee on Orphans and Underprivileged persons during an event held at Oniwaya in Agege area of Lagos.

Chairman of the committee in Lagos, Alhaji Umar Lawal Atana said the gesture was aimed at restoring hope to children who have lost their fathers.

He said the committee selected both Christians and Muslims to benefit from the gesture because Muslims are enjoined to care for orphans and the less privileged in the society irrespective of religion or tribe.

Among the beneficiaries, he added, were victims of insurgency from Borno State who had lost either both parents or their fathers.

According to him, the materials distributed to the children were sourced from friends and well-wishers who contributed their widow’s mite to actualize the project.

Atana called on government and other philanthropic individuals to support the project to enable the committee reach out to more orphans.

He added: “We still need more people to support this project. Before Sallah days, we want to provide foot-wears to the children as we normally do. We like government and the less privileged people to join hands with us on this issue because we intend to add another set of 1000 beneficiaries.

“We are seeing more and more orphans coming out. And we intend to put smiles on the faces of as many orphans as possible because we don’t want them to feel dejected on Sallah days when our own children adorn beautiful dresses and so on”.
