No fewer than 1,000 petty traders across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have received financial support and business tools under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The empowerment programme, held on Saturday in Karonmajiji, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), was aimed at boosting small-scale businesses, reducing poverty, and improving the livelihoods of vulnerable groups across the FCT.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, commended the First Lady for her commitment to economic empowerment and social inclusion, describing the intervention as a practical demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Mahmoud said the initiative would help beneficiaries strengthen their businesses, achieve financial independence, and improve their standard of living.

According to her, the programme reflects the Federal Government’s determination to support vulnerable citizens and provide opportunities for economic growth and self-reliance.

She noted that empowering small business owners and vulnerable groups is a strategic investment in human capital and national development.

“The Federal Capital Territory Administration remains committed to promoting policies and programmes that create opportunities for all citizens to realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to national development,” she said.

The minister urged beneficiaries to make prudent use of the support provided in order to expand their businesses and improve their economic wellbeing.

She also expressed appreciation to the First Lady for extending the empowerment initiative to residents of the FCT, noting that the programme would have a positive impact on families and communities.

The empowerment scheme is part of the First Lady’s broader intervention programmes under the Renewed Hope Initiative, which seeks to promote economic inclusion, alleviate poverty, and support women, vulnerable groups, and small-scale entrepreneurs across the country.

Earlier, former FCT APC Women Leader, Mrs. Hailmary Aipoh, praised Senator Tinubu for what she described as her compassion and commitment to improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

Aipoh expressed optimism that the support would enable beneficiaries to grow their businesses and improve their income.

Some of the beneficiaries also expressed gratitude to the First Lady and the Federal Government, saying the intervention would help them address business challenges and expand their trading activities.
