1,000  Women, Girls Gain ICT Skills in Southern Kaduna 
No fewer than 1,000 women and garls from across Southern Kaduna are being equipped with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills through a free training programme facilitated by Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District.
For many of the participants, the two-week programme marks their first structured exposure to digital tools, offering new opportunities for education, entrepreneurship and improved livelihoods in an increasingly technology-driven world.
The training, which commenced on Monday  at the Fantswam Foundation in Kafanchan, targets women and girls aged 18 years and above. It is organised in partnership with the Niger Delta Initiative and Women Our Voice Our Vote (WOVOV).
The initiative is aimed at closing the digital gap among women and girls in Southern Kaduna and ensuring they are not left behind in the evolving digital economy.
Speaking at the commencement of the programme, Coordinator of the Southern Kaduna Tech Professionals Network, Engr. Charles Bala Dyaji, said the training was a deliberate intervention championed by Senator Katung to promote digital inclusion and women empowerment.
According to him, the programme is designed to train at least 1,000 women and girls across the senatorial district, with plans to extend the training to other locations to address challenges related to distance and accessibility.
“This training is practical and impact-driven. Our focus is to ensure women and girls in Southern Kaduna acquire digital skills that can be applied immediately for learning, business and professional development,” Dyaji said.
He explained that participants are being trained in basic computer operations and other practical ICT skills that can help them improve productivity and access opportunities in various sectors.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Mrs. Zanswat Daniel, Halima Isa Abbas and Mrs. Linda Jerry Bako, described the programme as timely and empowering, noting that it has broadened their knowledge and confidence in using digital tools.
They expressed gratitude to Senator Katung and the partner organisations for initiating the programme, pledging to utilise the skills acquired to improve their livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
The participants also commended the quality of facilitation and the conducive learning environment at the Fantswam Foundation, saying the hands-on teaching approach enhanced understanding and participation.
The ICT training forms part of broader efforts by the to promote women empowerment, youth capacity building and sustainable development across Southern Kaduna, with organisers expressing optimism that the initiative will have lasting impact in the region
