About 10,000 smallholder maize farmers in 70 communities in Bauchi State are expected to benefit from OCP School Lab, an innovative programme of OCP Africa, aimed at increasing their yield and income.

OCP Africa is a subsidiary of Morocco’s OCP Group, a leading global provider of phosphate and its derivatives in the fertiliser subsector.

The School Lab is both a school and a lab. The school operates in a caravan of trucks and provides mobile interactive training sessions on good agricultural practices to rural farmers using live demos and animated videos.

The lab, manned by trained personnel, offers farmers on-site soil testing to determine the peculiar needs of the soil and fertiliser recommendations.

Recently, at Nabordo in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi, during the launch of the progamme at Nabordo in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State recently, Gov. Abubakar thanked the OCP Group for the warm reception during his last visit. 

The Country Manager of the company in Nigeria, Mr. Caleb Usoh, who represented the CEO of OCP Group, Mr. Karim Lotfi Senhadji, explained that, “OCP School Lab is one of the technological methods that the fertiliser company has put in place to help smallholder farmers to drastically improve their productivity.
