An 11-year-old almajiri boy, identified as Nura Bala, has reportedly drowned in a river in Gada-Biyu village, Kwali Area Council of the FCT.

A resident of Gada-Biyu, Suleiman Bello, said the incident happened on Sunday around 2:33pm when the teenage boy, alongside two other teenagers, went to swim in the area.

He said the deceased and two of his peers dived into the river from the top of a bridge but could not resurface.

He noted that the two other boys ran back home to report the incident, which prompted some residents to mobilize to the river to search for the boy.

He said his corpse was discovered around 6:12pm by some fishermen, adding that it had been buried.

Another resident of Gada-Biyu, identified as Malam Muazu, who spoke with our reporter, said parents have been warning their children against going to the river to swim, adding that the incident was the third in the last one year.

“Two boys got drowned in that river last year when they went to swim and the same thing happened on Sunday again where another almajiri boy died in the river again,” he said.

The police in the area said the incident was not reported.
