About 1,150 criminals, including cattle rustlers, bandits and kidnappers have sworn to abandon their illegal activities in Anchau village of Kaduna State.

The state police command’s spokesman, ASP Muhktar Aliyu, who disclosed this in Kaduna yesterday, added that the criminals were made to repent after intensive dialogue involving community leaders.

Aliyu said the Commissioner of Police, Austin Iwar, in pursuing his policy on community policing, had been partnering with communities which had helped in building trust and confidence which led to this result.

On his part, Head of Kubau Local Government Vigilante Service, Malam Audu Sallau, said the success recorded had to do with the support of the Kaduna State police command.

Sallau appealed to the federal, state and local governments to give them the required support for the peace and stability of the state and the country at large to be sustained.

“None of the repentant criminals was forced to do so, they voluntarily saw reason to renounce violence, and since the commencement of the programme our communities are now relatively peaceful,” he said.  It would be recalled that 750 of the repentant criminals swore by the Holy Qur’an a month ago to forego criminality.
