Detectives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested 12 suspected secret cult members for their alleged involvement in various murder cases in Ikorodu and Mushin areas of the state.

Their arrest followed a marching order given to area commanders and their respective DPOs to go after leaders of the different cult gangs responsible for violence in the metropolis in the last six weeks.

Members of rival secret cult gangs, Aiye and Eiye confraternities, had engaged themselves in series of attacks in Ikorodu and environs during the #EndSARS protest.

Worried by the activities of criminal elements in the metropolis, the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, vowed to rid the state of cultists and hoodlums who, he said had been fomenting trouble and threatening peace and security of the state.

Lagos State police spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects, said some of them were nabbed while on their way to wage an attack on rival cult members.

Adejobi said, “A special operational team that was dispatched by the Commissioner of Police led by the DPO in Ipakodo arrested some members of Aiye Confraternity fomenting trouble in the area.

“The arrested suspects are Opeyemi Oderinde (19), Otubu Samson (17), Otako Jeremiah (16), Kayode Agoro (17), Agbelusi Sunday (20), Kazeem Ishola (20), Olasojo Gbolahan (18), Ayodele  Olasunkanmi (18) and Segun James. Police operatives attached to Mushin Division arrested other suspected cultists who were on rampage at Moroluke Wey Street, Mushin.”

He gave the names of those arrested at Mushin as Daniel Adome (18), Popoola Michael (20), Kayode Thomson (18) and Taiwo Okiki (18), but that they belonged to another group, Omo Kasari Confraternity.

He said similarly, detectives arrested eight suspects who had been on rampage in Ikorodu on November 9, 2020.
