The Ondo State police Anti-Cultism Squad (SACS) has arrested 12 persons, mostly students of higher institutions in the state over secret cult activities.

The suspects, whose ages were put at between 19 and 22 years, were arrested in their various hideouts in Okitipupa and Owo Local Government Areas of the state by SAC detectives, acting on a tip-off.

Daily Trust learnt that six of the 12 suspects were arrested in Okitipupa, while others were arrested in Owo and other parts of the state.

Police sources said the suspects, who were said to be initiating new members when policemen swooped on them, were members of the dreaded Aye and Axe confraternity groups that have beenn unleashing terror on innocent students of some higher institutions in the state.

Our correspondent learnt that most of the suspects confessed to be cultists and students of higher institutions in the state, and promised to renounce their membership after the arrest.

The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Femi Joseph, who confirmed the story, said the suspects were still undergoing interrogation.
