The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 12 suspects over mysterious killings by unknown persons with sharp objects in parts of Bauchi metropolis.

The command spokesman, DSP Kamal Datti Abubakar, while answering questions from journalists, said they heard rumours of the killings by persons on motorcycles along Fadaman Mada axis and Gida Dubu housing estate.

He said one person reported a case at Tafawa Balewa Estate Police Division that his brother was stabbed with sharp objects from which he died.

“We commenced investigation and we have arrested 12 people. We are patrolling the area and also conducting stop and search as part of our effort get the culprits and bring them to justice,” he said.

He appealed to the public to provide police with useful information that will help them arrest the criminals.

A medical doctor in the area, Dr Sani Adamu, who told journalists that each of his wives took one Almajiri to assist her in day to day activities and in return gave them food, said “One of the pupils was hit by sharp objects.”

“They came and informed me and I wrote a note to the nurses on duty since it happened in the night and he was treated. He survived the incident,” he said.

The doctor said he also heard from a woman who came to commiserate with his family that a lady was similarly stabbed but that she survived but that another victim did not survive the mysterious stabbing in parts of the state capital.

The scholar of the pupil that was stabbed, Malam Ibrahim Khalil, said a few days ago in one of the mosques, an Imam urged people of the area to intensify prayers because of the mysterious killings happening in the area. He said an elderly person was stabbed and he died.

Khalil said there was the superstitious belief that if they stabbed a person and blood came out, the person will survive and if blood didn’t come out, the person will die.

He said the attackers usually came on motorcycles and stabbed their victims in the stomach.

Residents of the areas said over six people were affected and three of them died.
