Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested 13 suspects during an alleged cult initiation in a forest in Ekraka community, Kokori, in Ethiope East LGA.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said that on December 20, 2025, the police received intelligence that suspected members of the Neo-Black Movement (NBM), also known as the Black Axe Confraternity, were planning an initiation ceremony in the forest.
He said the operatives mobilised and stormed the forest, and that upon sighting the team, the suspects engaged them in a gun duel.
He said the police responded, leading to the arrest of 13 suspects, while several others fled further into the forest.
Edafe said a search of the area resulted in the recovery of two automatic pump-action guns, one double-barrel cut-to-size gun, one single-barrel cut-to-size gun, one battle axe and aprons bearing the “NBM” insignia.
He added that other items recovered included razor blades, several mobile phones, charms and suspected hard drugs.
He further said seven vehicles were recovered from the scene.
