The Ekiti State Police Command has recorded 12 rape cases and two cases of child abuse in the last four months.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Joseph Eribo, said on April 15, a case of rape was reported by an 18-year-old victim in Ikere-Ekiti against a suspect, one Bejide Oluwafemi, 28.
Eribo said both the victim and the suspect were students of a higher institution in the community.
The commissioner said the suspect allegedly lured the victim to his house at Ikere-Ekiti and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her, saying on interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime.

Also, on April 15, the police boss pointed out that a case of defilement was referred from the police Rapid Response Squad in Ado-Ekiti to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
He said, “The complainant, a 70-year-old woman in Ado-Ekiti, complained on behalf of the victim, a three-year-old girl, against the suspect, one Ayomide Julius, 17.”
The complainant alleged that the suspect fingered the victim’s private part in the toilet.
