The Kano state government has announced that it will soon reopen additional five entrepreneurship institutes that will admit 1,400 new beneficiaries as part of the state government administration’s focus on human capital development as a tool for economic empowerment and poverty reduction.

This was disclosed by the Kano state Statistician-General, and member of the steering committee on the revival of 26 entrepreneurship institutes, Dr. Aliyu Isa, during a stakeholders’ workshop on job creation in Kano state.

According to him, the five institutes slated for reopening are Poultry Institute Tukui, Makoda; Reformatory Institute in Kiru; Artisan Fisheries Institute Magaga in Kabo; Irrigation Institute Gwarzo and Journalism Institute, Kano.

He explained that the centres that were now ready for reactivation were part of 26 entrepreneur institutes established during the administration of Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso subsequently shut down and was abandoned for eight years by Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s administration.

He added that the decision of Governor Yusuf to resuscitate the centers was part of his administration’s focus on human capital development, stressing that the five institutes will not only enable beneficiaries with valuable skills, boost local economies, but also contribute significantly to the overall socio-economic transformation of the state.

“All preparations for the takeoff of these institutes have been finalized. Feeding arrangements, training materials, and basic infrastructure have been provided to ensure smooth operations from day one,” he said.

These institutes were designed to equip young people and women with practical and technical skills for self-reliance but were abandoned under the previous administration, leading to the decay of facilities and suspension of training programs.

“The five institutes slated for reopening include the Poultry Institute in Tukui, Makoda Local Government Area, which will admit 600 women who will be trained in poultry rearing.”
