145 golfers to participate in Ilorin Amateur Open Championship

Over 145 golfers will be participating in the 2024 Emirates Global Hotel Amateur Open Golf Championship in Ilorin from Friday to Saturday.

Dare Akanbi, member of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), told newsmen on Monday in Ilorin that the golfers include 124 males and 21 females.

Akanbi said the golfers were drawn from Ibom Golf Club, Ikeja Golf Club, Abeokuta Golf Club, Tiger Golf Club among others.

”The event is an annual championship introduced by the Chairman of Emirate Global Hotel, Hon. Lambe Akanbi, as part of his support and love for golf and his passion to grow the sport.

”We have concluded plans to hold the 2024 edition which will involve 124 males and 21 females and some other 11 are on standby because they registered late.

”The championship will Tee-off by 6:30 a.m on Saturday, though the official Tee-off will be by 9:00 am, and the closing  will be in the evening when winners  will be announced and rewarded,” Akanbi said.

He said the championship without any age bracket has prizes and souvenirs to be won by the winners and other consolation prizes for all participants.

The LOC member added that there are different categories of 1,2,3,4 and Senior Veterans.

It is reported that among top golfers expected at the championship are  Lanre Sagaya, Otunba Olusola Adekanola, Owolabi Olajide among others.
