The United Nations is marking an international Day for Solidarity with the Palestine people. The day is coming on the heels of heightened attacks by Israeli forces on the occupied territories of Palestine.
The UN General Assembly had in 1977 called for the annual observance of 29 November as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People under its resolution 32/40 B.
It would be recalled on that day, in 1947, the Assembly adopted the resolution on the partition of Palestine with resolution 181 (II).
UN said the resolution on the observance of the day also encourages member states to continue to give the widest support and publicity to the observance of the Day of Solidarity.

Again, an exhibit entitled “Palestine – a Land with a People,” will be inaugurated today and will remain on display at UN headquarters in the Visitors’ Lobby in New York until January 8th, 2024.
The exhibit commemorates the Palestinian Nakba – catastrophe, a deeply traumatic event that took place during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war when more than half of the Palestinian people were expelled from or fled their homes and became refugees.
“This exhibit showcases photographs, videos and art depicting different episodes in the Palestinian journey before, during, and after the Nakba. It serves as a reminder that close to 6 million Palestinians remain refugees to this day, scattered throughout the region. Hundreds of thousands of these refugees have experienced an additional forced displacement while thousands were killed, during the 2023 Gaza war, amid a situation described by the UN Secretary-General as a “humanitarian catastrophe,” a statement on the UN website added.
With the extension of the four-day truce agreed by Israel and Hamas to two more days on Monday, the war had claimed 14,128 Palestinians — mostly women and children — in Gaza, according to the government media office in Gaza, and more than 1,200 people in Israel, border attack on 7 October.
Of the casualty figures, about 6,000 were Palestinian children, according to Gazas Ministry of Health.
In another development, the global health body – WHO yesterday warned that more people could die from the disease in Gaza than from bombings if the health system is not repaired.
