Enahoro told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, venue of the clinic that the U-18 Youth Championship would hold in March next year.

He said that the three weeks clinic for boys and girls, aged eight to 16, would be used to select 15 players out of the 260 who registered for the programme.

He added that the fortunate ones would be given tennis equipment.

“The sponsors organise this competition every year to discover young talents and at the end, the best 15 players will be given equipment and further training.

“Those selected will play in the junior championship coming up next year after undergoing a free coaching programme which will run from Sept. 2011 to March 2012,’’ Enahoro said.

He noted that the championships would have 51 players from across the country in the draws.

Enahoro commended NNPC and Chevron for collaborating in the programme, saying that “it has produced outstanding players since it’s inception in 2000’’.

He added that winners of the past editions were currently tennis professionals and coaches who have also won laurels outside the shores of the country.

“Sodiq Olawunmi, Sheriff Balogun, Monday Igbinova, Larne Alayakin, Henry Atseye and Samuel Omoile are past winners of the competition,’’ Enahoro said. (NAN)
