A Civil Society Organisation (CSO), Maternal and Child Health Care Civil Society Partnership (MCH-CS Partnership), has distributed mosquito nets to 150 pregnant women in Takalau village of Birnin Kebbi Local Government of Kebbi State.
The event which took place yesterday attracted large turnout of women and children in the village who came out to benefit from the programme.
Hajiya Maryam Mustapha , the chairperson of the health NGO told the women that the programme was aimed at safeguarding the health of mothers and children against mosquitoes which are rampant during rainy season.
She also explained that, the objective of setting up of the NGO in the state was to support the efforts of government in reducing maternal and child mortality.
Other activities include collaborating with other stakeholders to assist women and children especially against killer diseases and provide awareness for women on the need to always go to hospital for medication.
Vice chairman of the association, Aliyu Jajirma, urged the beneficiaries not to sell the nets, saying it will be inimical to the fight against malaria and promised to sustain the campaign. He advised the women to also spread the nets outside for 24 hours before using them because of the chemical used.
One of the beneficiaries, Hadiza Yar Malan, thanked the NGO for the gesture and promised that they will not sell the nets but use them at home.
