Sixteen local government chairmen from Kano South have thrown their weight behind Kabiru Alhassan Rurum as their preferred candidate for the senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

In a statement issued after consultations with their councils, party leaders, and legislators in the region this weekend, the chairmen said the decision was taken to support Rurum—who currently represents the Rano/Kibiya/Bunkure

Federal Constituency—against the incumbent senator, Suleiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila.

The statement noted that the resolution was reached unanimously, stressing the need to sustain peace and mutual understanding among party members.

It added that the endorsement aims to strengthen solidarity and ensure quality representation for the people of Kano South at the national level.

Confirming the development, the Vice-Chairman of Bebeji Local Government, Ali Sarkin Yaki, said the decision was taken to save the party in the forthcoming election.
He explained that the move was necessary to prevent the party from losing the senatorial district to the opposition in 2027.
When contacted, one of the close associates of the Senator who preferred not to be named, said they are aware of the resolution, but declined to comment on it.
“We have seen it, but it is not yet time to comment on it. We will address all the issues raised,” the person added.
