The police on Monday arraigned a 16-year-old girl (name withheld) before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly threatening to kill a 15-year-old girl for reportedly “snatching” her boyfriend.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing charges of threat to life and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace. She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Friday Mameh, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb. 20 at about 9pm at Khalakuta Jegba Quarters, Badagry, Lagos.
Mameh alleged that the defendant assaulted the complainant (name withheld) by using a razor blade to cut her face, inflicting serious injuries. (NAN)
He stated that the defendant conducted herself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by creating a pandemonium in the area.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant accused the complainant of stealing her boyfriend.
“The defendant used a razor blade to cut the face of the complainant, intended to disfigure her so she would leave the boyfriend,” Mameh said. “She was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution.”
The prosecutor noted that the offences contravene Sections 230 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. A. J. Aina, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate ruled that one of the sureties must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 12.
The case was adjourned until March 30 for mention.
