Seventeen Nigerian cricket coaches have successfully completed the ICC Level 2 Coaching Course, held in both Nigeria and Namibia, further strengthening the nation’s coaching capacity.
The Abuja edition of the course, conducted from 12th to 15th June 2025, saw a total of thirteen coaches attain certification. Among the successful candidates were Ademola Adeniyi Onikoyi, Afani Abdulhamid Ali, Agatha Obulor, Salako Azeez Adekunle, Justin Prosper Okere, Oluseye Olympio Ali, Leonard Onome Oghenekevwe, Okechukwu Onwudiwe Jamal, Richard Ikiponmwen Osamudiamen, Offong Edidiong, Okafor Somtochukwu Odinaka, Matthew Aghahowa Efosa, and Awobola Yusuf Bolaji.
Meanwhile, the ICC Level 2 Coaching Course held in Namibia from 7th to 10th September 2025 produced four certified coaches: Etim Blessing, Sarah Bhakita, Oyede Adeleke Mutiu, and Ibodeme Adolphus Theophilus. All candidates successfully passed the rigorous assessment, demonstrating their readiness to contribute significantly to cricket development in Nigeria.
President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, Mr. Uyi Akpata, congratulated the newly certified Level 2 coaches and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence. He praised their achievement for enhancing the nation’s coaching standards and elevating Nigeria’s cricket profile.
Akpata also urged the coaches to actively share their expertise with grassroots trainers, emphasizing the Federation’s goal of introducing cricket to over 250,000 new participants.
He highlighted that this knowledge transfer is critical to achieving the NCF’s development targets and ensuring that Nigeria’s cricket ecosystem continues to grow sustainably and competitively.
