18 Bayelsa Gov’s Cup players for Golden Eaglets screening
Eighteen outstanding players at the just concluded edition of the Bayelsa State Governor’s Cup popularly called ‘Prosperity Cup’ have been invited to participate in the South-South zonal U-17 national team screening.
The exceptional talents were identified by a scouting team sent by Coach Manu Garba under the leadership of Mr Paul Ojo Omamomo, a FIFA licenced football agent.
The zonal screening which started yesterday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium Uyo will end on Thursday, July 3.
The screening exercise is aimed at identifying talented players for the next squad of the Golden Eaglets.
According to the Director General of the Bayelsa Governor’s Cup, Mr Ono K. Akpe, the initiative is a testament to the tireless efforts of Governor Douye Diri and his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who have consistently demonstrated their commitment to sports development in the state.
He described the invitation as a significant milestone for Bayelsa State’s football development, adding that the tournament has consistently provided a platform for young players to demonstrate their abilities, and it’s heartening to see the fruits of this labour being recognized on the national stage.
Akpe said the Commissioner for Sports Development in the state, Dr. Daniel Igali, has also played a pivotal role in promoting football in Bayelsa State, and this achievement is a direct result of their vision and investment in sports.
The Director-general also said: “The NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, deserves special mention for his outstanding contributions to the growth of young football talents in the country.”
