At least, 18 people reportedly loss their lives in about 338 cases of fire incidents recorded in the Federal Capital Territory between January and September, 2025.
Abuja Metro reports that at least 69 people were also saved from fire outbreaks during the period.
Engr. Adebayo Amiola Zacchaeus, the Controller of the FCT Fire Service, who gave the statistics in Abuja, said property worth over N6 billion were loss to the fire incidents during the period.
The Controller, however, said the Service despite its numerous challenges was able to save property worth over N14 billion across the FCT during the period.
He said the deaths were recorded during the month of March and April.
The controller urged residents to be cautious with open fires, bush burning, and electrical usage, as the dry season approaches—a period which he described as characterized by frequent and severe fire outbreaks.
He pleaded with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike to recruit more personnel for the Service.
