The Daura General Hospital in Katsina State recorded 52 maternal deaths between January and September out of the total 340 recorded this year across the state, making it the highest under the period under review.
This was contained in the report of the Maternal and PeriNatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) Committee made available to health reporters at a training organised by the Katsina State Maternal and Newborn Health Accountability Mechanism Forum (KATSMAF).
Eighteen government-owned hospitals were reviewed in the report which showed that Dutsinma General Hospital and Malumfashi General Hospital are second and third with 42 and 38 deaths respectively.
The report also revealed that 21, 302 deliveries were recorded out of which 1,897 were through caesarian section (CS).
The report showed that about 297 of the 340 who died did not attend nor receive ante-natal care but were referred to the general hospitals when it was time for delivery.
