Eighteen months after they were suspended, the Imo State House of Assembly has recalled a former deputy speaker of the state house of assembly, Hon. Okey Onyekanma, and the lawmaker representing Orlu state constituency, Ekene Nnodimele.

The members were recalled during plenary on Thursday.

The assembly had on December 24, 2021, suspended three of its members and declared the seat of the Ngor Okpala member vacant.

The decision to recall the suspended lawmakers was based on the report of an ad-hoc committee headed by the majority leader and member representing Owerri West state constituency, Hon. Onyemaechi Dele.

The Majority Leader, Hon. Onyemaechi Dele, who moved a motion for the recall, said for 18 months, the two constituencies have not had representation.

Ruling, the Imo speaker, Emeka Nduka, declared the suspension lifted and advised the affected members to resume sitting immediately.

Another major decision taken at the plenary was an amendment to the house rules, which paved the way for a newly-elected member to emerge as speaker of the tenth assembly.
