A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bala Maijama’a Wunti, has called on religious leaders, particularly Christian clergy, to promote messages of peace, tolerance, and responsible civic engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In an Easter message issued through his Chief Communication Officer, Abubakar Al-Sadique, Wunti extended greetings to Christians across Nigeria and urged them to use the season to reflect on values that foster unity and national cohesion.
“Easter reminds us of sacrifice, hope, and renewal—values that remain essential to our collective progress as a nation,” he said.
He emphasised the role of religious institutions in shaping public attitudes during the electoral period.
“I urge our respected clergymen to continue to preach peaceful coexistence and responsible behaviour among citizens, especially as we approach the general elections,” Wunti stated.
“Elections should not be a cause for division or conflict, but an opportunity to strengthen our democracy.”
He also encouraged Nigerians, regardless of religious or political affiliation, to participate peacefully in the democratic process.
“All citizens should uphold the rule of law, reject violence, and engage constructively in the democratic process. It is important that eligible Nigerians obtain their voter cards and take part in shaping the future of the country,” he said.
Wunti further called on Christians to use the Easter period for prayers and reflection.
“Easter is a time for reflection, sacrifice, and renewed faith. I call on all Christians to pray for peace, love, and unity across our nation,” he added.
He also urged political actors to focus on constructive engagement.
“I encourage political stakeholders across party lines to prioritise issue-based campaigns that promote national cohesion, the public interest, and democratic stability,” he said.
Wunti expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future and wished Christians a peaceful and fulfilling Easter celebration.
