The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old woman, Esther Gambo, for allegedly kidnapping and killing two seven-year-old girls in Toro Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, said the incident was reported on July 22, 2025. 

Esther, a resident of Lemoro Village, reportedly lured Khadija Sama’ila and A’isha Dahiru from Unguwan Sarkin Yaki village under the pretext of helping them, but later murdered them in a maize farm using a machete.

She allegedly committed the act to gain access to a newborn baby, whom she kidnapped from Nafisa Dahiru. The baby was later rescued during police operations.

The killings triggered violent protests by angry youths, leading to the burning of churches and an attempt to torch the Tulu Divisional Police Headquarters. 

Police reinforcements restored calm and arrested 16 suspects in connection with the unrest.

Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, urged residents to remain law-abiding and assured the public that investigations were ongoing.
